Panoply was developed at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

All bug reports should indicate what version of Panoply you are using as well as what operating system is on your computer and what version of Java is installed. Also note that requests for assistance opening a dataset or interpreting the gridding of the data within will probably require that you provide a copy of the dataset or instructions on where it might be downloaded.
Panoply uses several third-party Java code libraries, provided under various licenses as listed. You may obtain source code for these libraries at the given URLs.

Color tables included within the Panoply application come from several sources. Among them are:
CB. Color tables whose names begin with the prefix "CB" are based on color information obtained from ColorBrewer2.org by Cynthia A. Brewer of the Department of Geography at the Pennsylvania State University.
GMT. Color tables whose names begin with "GMT" are based on color schemes from the Generic Mapping Tools software from SOEST at the University of Hawai'i.
JS. Color tables whose names begin with "JS" are based on color schemes created by Joshua Stevens.
NCL. Color tables whose names begin with "NCL" are based on color schemes from the NCL Graphics Color Table Gallery from UCAR.
OCM. Color tables whose names begin with "OCM" are based on color schemes included in True Colors of Oceanography by Thyng et al.
SCM. Color tables whose names begin with "SCM" are based on color schemes included in Scientific Color Maps 6 by Crameri et al.
UO. Color tables whose names begin with "UO" are based on color schemes described by Light & Bartlein of the Dept. of Geography at the University of Oregon.

Most coastline and border outline map overlays included in the Panoply application are based on the Micro World Data Bank II (MWDB II) dataset, originally created by Fred Pospeschil and Antonio Rivera. Panoply uses outline data dated 2011 as available for download from Pospeschil's website with minor modifications. Although some national borders have since changed, border outlines included in Panoply may not reflect all such changes.
